When did you start or plan to start talking to you kids about sex, drugs and alcohol?

When looking at your innocent 10 year old child, does it cross your mind that they may have already starting experimenting with grown-up things?

That someone may have taken their innocence by introducing grown-up things?

That YOU may have been the one to introduce such things (by example, smoking and drinking)?

10 year olds are not even close to innocent as we would LIKE them to be. I didn't know even a 1/3 of what the kids already know now at that age. My 10 year old daughter is "dating" this boy and they talk on the phone and hold hands and my husband thinks that is innocent enough and my opinion is yes THAT is but what happens when you aren't looking is my concern. 13 and 15 years old and having babies is so common now noone even thinks hey that could be my daughter! Instead blinders go on and we think "not my kid it could never happen to my child". Our youngest daughter told me of her friend who has already had oral sex with her "boyfriend" and she is only 8! You can't talk to children early enough these days about sex and proper timing and all that goes with it. A friend of mine is with her daughter of 17 who is giving birth right now to her second child and her first child isn't even 1 yet. TALK TO YOUR KIDS EARLY AND INSTILL SOME SELF WORTH AND VALUES OR PAY THE PRICE! Our youngest 2 kids are not full-time in our home so I have very little control over what they are exposed to which makes it harder for us to have a "say" in how things are brought up and what is said because there is NOT a united front and I would be overstepping my boundaries if I did have the "talk" with them because the Mom is very very territorial but is also not very hands on parenting so it's one of those things that can cause an all out war if I do what I did with my now 18 year old daughter and have the "talk" and explain what is and is not acceptable. Don't leave it to the school to tell your children do it now and keep doing it one discussion doesn't do it you have to keep talking about it and make sure that the subject is open for discussion at all times. Kids have questions they are too shy to ask and if that door isn't open early they will never come to you with them.
